Cold Air Returns Late Month/Early February

Good morning everyone. Our stretched out system continues to blanket central, southern, and the eastern part of the Country, keeping us in clouds and on & off rain through Sunday. We continue to watch a more complicated scenario for Sunday night, but even so, it looks like nothing major for the Northeast and New England.

Flooding will be kept to a minimum since we are not dealing with widespread or continuous heavy rain, with the ground getting a break in between rain drops and brief dry periods. Th last of this system passes by on Sunday, with low pressure transferring its energy offshore, but it looks “too weak” and “too late” do have any major impact. At worst, I think we’re looking at rain changing to snow before coming to an end.

After that, colder air begins to seep down from the north. This will be a different type of cold airmass and won’t be as cold. It also won’t be far-reaching in terms of real estate. This looks to be the Northeast and New England’s problem, before an un-friendly snow-pattern pushes the cold air out before the first week of February ends.

Clouds are here and rain returns this afternoon. Look for some light cold rain creeping in, then showery overnight. Temps are in the low 40’s as we speak, and will rise overnight.

Tomorrow looks “mild” and rainy, with highs near 50.

WEATHER RADAR

AM rain graces us on Friday, then we get a break with some mild air hanging around. Highs 55-60. Clouds remain on Saturday, but we should see a few blue breaks and near 50 temps.

Rain returns Sunday afternoon and it’ll be a cold rain at that. We’ll have highs in the low 40’s. With lows dipping to near freezing Sunday night, we could see a period of snow or mix at the end. Little to no accumulation is expected.
