Fast Nor’Easter Today Uncertainty Late Week

Good morning everyone. The party is just getting started as the radar slowly fills in and we get our quick Nor’easter going today. We remain active and cold after this one, with one weak area of moisture on Tuesday, then a larger area of disturbed weather late week.

SATELLITE

The clouds are here and we’re keeping a close eye on the radar today for any changes and little nuances are far as who will see the heaviest snow. Expect precipitation to start between 7:30 and 9:30am, and then snow will be heavy at times some time between mid/late morning and early/mid afternoon. This thing is in and out, and we should begin to see an end to all snow by evening time.

SNOW AMOUNTS

Snow amounts remain unchanged in my book, with 4-8″+ possible in the NYC Metro are and Long Island. The lower to higher end of that spectrum should be a west to east type deal, with somewhere on Long Island seeing the highest amount. (Southeast New England will see the biggest numbers overall). Overnight, NWS scaled back their numbers and are more in line with mine and Joe Cioffi’s. They had a blanket 8-10″ across the area at some point, which is going to be hard to pull off.

The best chance to see the “8+” will actually be in the “Bust Zone” where we are watching for some prolonged mixing. If that mixing doesn’t occur or is minimized, we could see the highest amounts out there in eastern Suffolk. Overall, I’m happy with what I see, and we’re going to let it ride.

Make sure you remove that snow before nightfall, because it’ll be of the heavy, wet variety. Temps in the teens overnight will turn that snow into a solid block of ice if you don’t get it out.

F5 WEATHER RADARS

Tomorrow we go sunny and cold, with highs barely reaching 30. Another disturbance is going to pass by on Tuesday, but it’ll be weak in nature. Temps in the mid 30’s will give us a risk of some light rain or snow showers, with little to no accumulation expected.

Sunshine and cold returns for Wednesday, and we have problems cracking 30 again. Clouds increase Thursday ahead of our late week mish-mosh, and we’ll briefly discuss that below.

For Friday, things could change just as our system today did, but as of this moment it is looking fairly unorganized. Think of it as a big apple pie, but instead of someone coming over with the pie, they just throw all of the ingredients in your face. Without the component coming in from the Rockies, we’re just going to have a big swath of moisture heading to us and hitting that cold air, and no organized low pressure to give it any horsepower.

We’ll keep an eye on it all, and a setup like that may actually give someone problems with a prolonged period of light freezing rain.
