Good morning everyone. We continue to watch Hurricane Lee very closely and what it could mean for the Northeast late this week and into the weekend. Unfortunately, models are trending a little more west, with models converging on the idea that New England could take a direct or indirect hit. This bears watching, because if New England takes a direct hit, there could be some consequences for parts of Long Island in terms of coastal flooding.
There is still time and room for Hurricane Lee to get kicked further out and impact Nova Scotia more directly, but the later the arrival of the storm and the slower it takes that turn to the north, the more room it has to get pushed further west.
For this reason, we cannot signal the “all clear” right now and may not be able to in general. For example, if by chance Hurricane Lee clips Cape Cod, areas such as Greenport, Riverhead, the Hamptons, Sag Harbor, and north shore towns such as Bayville, could experience damaging flooding. At this point in the game, nobody is out of the woods, so we must kick the can down the road another day and see how the models react as we go on.
Below is your local forecast.
As you can see, Hurricane Lee is starting to enter the picture. If the models continue to trend the way they are, we still have 5 more days until it begins to impact the Northeast in one form or another. For today, moisture hung up in the Northeast corridor (which has nothing to do with Lee) will continue to bring clouds and scattered showers storms into the area. Highs will be near 80 and humid.
We could see some AM sun tomorrow, then increasing clouds late with the slight chance of a shower or storm. Highs 80-85 and humid again.
Overcast skies and more showers and storms roll back in on Wednesday. We’ll cool off a drop, but I’ll keep us in the 75-80 degree range in case some areas don’t see rain during our heating hours.
Sunshine returns on Thursday for a pleasant day in the mid 70’s.
For Friday, we begin watching Hurricane Lee. While the National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies, I’m going to go with increasing clouds and mid 70’s.
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
