MILD DRY NYC TODAY AFTERNOON SHOWERS TOMORROW

Good morning everyone. We have a fairly nice day today before the clouds begin to increase with our next system that’ll bring some scattered rain tomorrow. Somewhat mild temps will rule for the entire week, but nothing record breaking and winds will vary. There’s also a lot of hype about a possible system early next weekend, but I don’t see anything of significance if anything at all.

SATELLITE

Look for a sunny start today, then increasing clouds as the day goes by. We’ll be on the mild side with temps in the 55-60 range, and we’ll remain dry. Temps will be slightly cooler at the immediate shore with winds blowing off of the cooler ocean.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow, scattered showers creep in, especially in the afternoon. A few showers may be moderate, but we’re not talking about a complete washout tomorrow. Temps remain on the mild side with some more 55-60 range temps.

Rain exits overnight tomorrow and sunshine should return by late morning/early afternoon Wednesday. Winds will begin to increase as well, and we should have steady westerlies in the 10-20mph category late. Expect 50-55 degree temps.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Low 50’s continue on Thursday with a breeze and mostly sunny skies, then clouds begin to increase late Thursday night/Friday AM with our next system coming.

Friday’s system looks like a pice-meal, mish-mosh type deal. As of now, it looks as if we’ll have scattered PM showers and highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. Colder air tries to sneak in later at night as moisture hangs around, but there are questions as to how much cold air and how much moisture is left.

Low pressure tries to form as everything exits, but it’ll probably be too late. Models depict this system throwing back some extra precipitation, but models don’t handle these types of scenarios too well in March (or any other time this winter season). Maybe we get a mix of wet flakes with a cold rain, maybe we don’t.

As of this moment, I’m not concerned and we should wait until Wednesday to get a clearer picture of what the atmosphere looks like.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range, regardless of what happens late Friday into early Saturday, 50’s return for next Sunday and we may even push 60 for next Monday. The gears of spring are in full motion regardless of any last minute tricks Old Man Winter tries to throw at us.

You can already see the pattern breaking down with systems becoming more vigorous as they near the Gulf/Tennessee Valley. This is not an indictor of winter hanging on, but an indicator of milder/warmer air coming up through the south and more definitive boundaries forming.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
