NYC Cloudier Cooler Forecast Severe Weather Risk Reduced

Good morning everyone. After a surprisingly decent day yesterday, Mother Nature throws some wrenches into the forecast in the opposite direction; making things more complicated, less complicated, cloudier, cooler, and more showery in nature than anything else.

SATELLITE

storm free

Our stationary front has sunk just to our south, which means we will be on the cooler side of things over the next several days. Everything remains the same in terms of keeping an eye on the radar and timing out the precipitation for each day, but we will be on the cool side of the tracks, with more clouds, and a much-reduced chance of thunderstorms.

After a semi-bright sunrise with clouds mixed in, we’ll have more clouds than sun throughout the day. A light northerly flow will be the tell-tale sign that we’re on the “wrong” side of things for warm weather. There will also be the chance of a shower at any point during the day. We’ll have a greater shot of some showers as the day progresses with heavier showers and thunderstorms to our south.

We will basically be riding the northern fringe of these shower and storm complexes/waves as the front is either draped over us or just to our south; so l’ll be keeping an eye out on each wave for any changes, but the biggest risk of heavy showers and storms, will be central NJ southward. Highs today in the mid to upper 70’s.

REGIONAL RADAR

Mid to upper 70’s and cloudy skies essentially rule all week unless that front decides to pass back to our north. It’s position will waver throughout this period and we’ll watch for any changes in its behavior. As of now, tomorrow is looking like a repeat of today; with cloudy skies, slightly below average temps, a maritime fetch, and the chance of showers at any time.

If that front gets closer, we could introduce thunderstorms into the forecast tomorrow night, but it remains to be seen.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

storm free

All week we deal with this pattern until all of the energy hanging back well to our west is gone. This will probably take until Thursday/Friday. We could squeeze out a few nice days Friday and into the weekend if everything is gone in a timely manner. Upper 70’s to low 80’s are likely to return as well with the sun helping us dry out.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range, we might take one more similar ride like we are this week, but we could be on the warmer side of things if it plays out correctly. Summer wants to break out in a bad way and the end of June/early part of July have the potential to be very warm if the pattern breaks down in a timely fashion.

The foundation for it is building strong, now we just need the jet stream to let go.
