NYC Coastal Snowstorm Brush Today

Good morning everyone. Our snowstorm for the Mid-Atlantic and parts of NJ is unfolding as we speak. It is a compact system, with a narrow band of very heavy snow that’ll stay to our south. However, as mentioned yesterday, there was a possibility that some of the listening area may get brushed by this system. It looks as if this scenario will pan out, especially on the south shores of NYC, Long Island, and the East End.

Expect cloudy skies and cold conditions today as temps hover in the upper 20’s to near 30. Light snow will move in and out of parts of the area this morning, with a steadier light snow developing later on. The best chance to see measurable snow will be along the south shores of NYC and Long Island, with some light to moderate snow possible in eastern Suffolk. Yesterday we talked about a 1-3/3-5″ scenario if this panned out, and it looks fairly close to that initial forecast as well. Look for 1-3″ possible, with the best chance along those south facing shores, and 2-4″+ possible out on the East End. We’ll keep an eye on the radar for any surprises in either direction.

Tomorrow we go sunny and cold with highs in the mid 30’s, then we modify a bit under cloudy skies Wednesday. Highs in the mid 40’s with a scattered light AM mix possible.

Sunshine returns on Thursday morning, then we’ll have increasing clouds late. Theres the chance of some light snow or mix on Friday AM, then we go sunny for the rest of the day and on Saturday.
