NYC Coastal Storm Questions Remain
Good morning everyone. Another day arrives and question remain about this weekend for the East Coast and Gulf States. We’re starting to see a trend in both the GFS and EURO to the west and north, and the GFS slowly drifts towards the EURO, but how far does it go? As of now, the NYC area and the Northeast as a whole, have a very good shot at seeing some significant, plowable snow. However, if the Euro is the winner and everything is a little “warmer”, we could even see some mixing or rain in the forecast. As of now, I’m not there yet as far as committing to anything.
SATELLITE
Expect a cold day today with highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s and increasing clouds. We’ll have the slight chance of some flurries overnight as the next reinforcing shot of cold air comes down.
WEATHER RADAR
Ahead of it, we’ll see a decent day on Thursday with low 40’s; then the bottom drops out and cold air locks in for our approaching system. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds on Friday with low 30’s, then single digits to low teens overnight.
We don’t recover much on Saturday as highs are stuck in the mid to upper teens for highs. Clouds increase overnight on Saturday, with light snow likely before sunrise. We’ll watch things closely for Sunday, but at minimum, we should see Winter Storm Warnings posted in advance for the potential of 6″+ of snow. If things remain all snow and low pressure gets closer instead of being suppressed well south, the potential is there for 8-14″+ of snow.
