NYC Compact Weak System May Still Brush Area Overnight

Good morning everyone. Clouds are on the increase this morning as that very small piece of energy we’ve been talking about, emerges from Tennessee and West Virginia. We’re still keeping an eye on it as far as how close it gets to us, then the next chance of precip won’t be till the weekend; which will also come with some mild air.

SATELLITE

Look for clouds to increase throughout the day and highs near 40 or just above. Overnight, we’ll have the slight chance of some light rain. Then as that system moves off the coast, colder air will bleed in and change anything that is falling, to light snow.

None of this is written in stone as its very possible everything slips just to our south. At worst, we’ll see a trace to a coating of snow, but my main concern will be the slippery commute in morning. If we get a little bit of light rain, then a little bit of light snow as those temps near the freezing mark, we could see some icy patches tomorrow morning; so give yourself some extra commute time if you peek out in the AM and see a dusting.

The “greatest” chance for an upside surprise will be way out east on Long Island, with the Forks having the best shot. If the precip shield makes it far enough north, eastern Suffolk could hold onto the snow long enough to drop a quick coating to 2″ of snow. It’s all hypothetical at this point as we await and see if the precip shield can make it, but I’m just throwing it out there so that there are no surprises.

REGIONAL RADAR

We’ll clear out gradually tomorrow and that wind will be blowing. Look for steady 15-20 mph westerlies, with gusts to 30+. Overnight, we could reach near 40 mph gusts with wind chills in the teens as actual lows drop into the low to mid 20’s.

On Thursday, the sun returns in full, but we’ll have a hard time breaking the 30’s. Expect low to mid 30’s as highs, which will be the first below average day we’ve had in a little while.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Clouds begin to increase on Friday with our next, much larger system, but it looks like the rain will hold off until Saturday. Expect mild temps near 50, then we may get close to 60 on Saturday with a price paid in the form of showery conditions and a strong southerly fetch.

As of now, Sunday looks like the rainiest of the two days, and mild temps remain until that front pushes through.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the immediate outlook, I still see no major snow systems brewing for our area. However, I’m still keeping my eye on the Gulf for any surprises.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
