NYC Dry Air May Hinder Snow Overnight

Good morning everyone. We begin to watch an approaching system to see if we can drop a little snow in the NYC overnight tonight before things mix with and chance over to a cold rain tomorrow. There are some issues with possibly some dry air cutting off the precipitation as the majority of the energy goes north of the City, but we’ll keep a close eye on it to see if the radar fills in. Check out the latest below….

SATELLITE

Today look sunny and cold with highs in the mid to upper 30’s. Clouds increase tonight as lows drop to near freezing. There are a lot of “ifs” tonight, but IF the radar does fill in and IF snow begins sooner than later overnight, the NYC area could see a trace to 1″ of snow out of this. It is not a big event by any stretch of the imagination; however, areas North and Northwest of NYC could see a 1-3″ type snowfall. In higher elevations of the Catskills, we could see some local 4″ amounts.

Any light snow mxes with and changes to cold rain as we rise into the 40’s Tuesday.

WEATHER RADAR

Christmas Eve day looks chilly with steady northwesterlies and low to mid 40’s. Christmas Day looks to remain dry under increasing clouds and more low 40’s.

Friday’s looking a little odd so far, so I’m going to hold off as we wait to see what our next system does. Models have done a 180 from yesterday, but we’ll see if they snap back to sanity.
