NYC Hot Stretch Continues Louisiana Braces For Hurricane Marco

Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on in the tropics obviously as we watch 2 tropical systems, and our very warm to hot weather continues here. Relief will be on the way for us, but the Gulf Coast is going to have some major problems and a big cleanup on their hands.

SATELLITE

As for us, upper 80’s will be on the menu today with mostly sunny skies and fairly dry conditions. We’ll keep the slight chance of a storm in the forecast, but mostly for the interior and very widely scattered if any at all.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow and Tuesday look to hang around in the upper 80’s to low 90’s under mostly sunny skies, and we’ll also have the slight chance of a storm.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

We’ll “cool off” a bit Wednesday and sink back down into the mid 80’s, then upper 80’s return for Thursday with the slight chance of a storm.

Relief should come some time on Saturday for Sunday as we wait for a fairly vigorous front to pass through. Not sure about the moisture content yet, but the airmass difference will be sharp. After a warm and humid Friday and Saturday with a chance of storms each day, we should be dry, breezy, and cool on Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 70’s!

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Unfortunately right now in the tropics, it looks like New Orleans may take a beating from what will be Hurricane Marco. Marco is on the move and should be knocking on the door some time tomorrow as a Category 1 or 2 Hurricane. It’s not a city-eraser in terms of its winds, but the storm surge is going to be a big problem with the angle it’s coming in on. Expect a 3-6+ft inundation of water above dry land, which will make this a life threatening and destructive surge. Please heed all warnings from your local administrators, and evacuate now if you’re in the area.

Tropical Storm Laura will wind of being the stronger of the 2 systems, but the final path hasn’t been determined. I think the FL Keys are safe aside from some heavy rain and gusty winds. However, once it gets into the Gulf, it should strengthen very fast and on a collision course with the Gulf Coast again some time late Wednesday/early Thursday.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
