Good morning everyone. Light snow continues its slide towards the Northeast Region, possibly giving us some innoccuos flakes in the NYC area in the evening/overnight. In the meantime, I’m looking at this weekend and everything seems to fizzle into a drawn-out piece-meal affair for the entire stretch, then January-like cold moves on in for several days.
Cold air and cloudy conditions reign supreme today as a clipper-esque type system begins to slide our way. Most of the energy will slip to the north of us, but we could see some flakes in the area. Expect highs in the upper 20’s to maybe a touch past 30 today, with a scattered flake or two during the daytime.
Overnight, the majority of the energy goes north, but we might get some light snow in the area before sunrise tomorrow. I remain skeptical as to what we can really squeeze out of this, so my numbers remain conservative.
Even as we’re on the cusp of this, I’m still thinking a dusting or coating at best IF anything at all for the NYC area. Areas out east on Long Island could see a touch more as everything departs, but maybe a coating to an inch IF anything falls at all. Should an upside surprise happen, eastern LI might see 2″.
We go back to sunny and being cold tomorrow, but at least the winds will be light; highs in the upper 30’s to near 40.
I know people are looking for answers now for the end of week/weekend, but everything kind of fell apart into a couple of pieces of weak energy. I want to see what the atmosphere looks like tomorrow after the “dust” settles overnight to see if anything organizes or remains piece-meal.
At some point, we will see some rain, but it may start as some frozen precipitation and/or end as frozen precipitation as the mess departs, especially if things remain unorganized and weak. Either way, our weekend is looking cool and dreary.
The only certainty in my mind for the long range, is that cold air is on its way for the first full week of March. Expect January-like highs and lows for a 3-5 day stretch before things start to relax and modify back towards average, early March temperatures.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
