NYC Long Range Outlook

Good morning everyone. While cold air dominates the forecast and the news outlets, we skip ahead to take a look down the road and see if there are any pattern changes in sight. As discussed on the “Joe & Joe Show” last week, I continue to see the possibility of a modification of sorts in the form of a semi-zonal flow. Let’s take a look at the immediate forecast, then I’ll go into the long range at the end.

SATELLITE

For now, cold air dominates aside from our next system due in on Wednesday. Look for sun & clouds today with chilly conditions and highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s.

WEATHER RADAR

Your workweek starts off cold, with sunshine and 30-35 degree temps both tomorrow and Tuesday. Our next system doesn’t work out snow-wise on Wednesday, with cold rain expected and highs in the mid 40’s for a nasty day. Behind that system, cold air rushes back in. Highs by Friday are back in the 30’s as a reinforcing shot of cold air pushes through. Another disturbance behind it, could give is the chance of a period of snow Friday night into Saturday. We’ll keep an eye on that one as it’s hard to predict 3 systems ahead.

In the long range, there are some hints that the jet stream wants to flatten-out a bit for the last 1/3 of the month. This doesn’t necessarily mean a mild time, but we could see temps more on the average-side, with quick moving, weaker storm systems. Aside from those looking for a White Christmas, it would be good news for holiday travelers in most of the lower 48.

Stay tuned and we will not only keep an eye on late Friday/Saturday, but also the long range to see if this new pattern comes to fruition.
