NYC Much Needed Rain Causes Flooding Complications

Good morning everyone. Just a few days ago, we were experiencing 100º temps, some scattered PM storms, and deep-summer heatwave “early” in the season. Today we wipe everything clean as we struggle to barely reach the 70’s with slow moving rain and embedded storms. Such is summer, and this is very typical of some of the ones we experienced in the 1980’s as kids. Once we recover fully, look for a muggy and warm 7-10 day stretch for a “dog days of summer” feel.

SATELLITE

Look for cloudy skies and slow moving showers and storms developing. We’re already seeing this across the Hudson Valley down across Long Island, and I think this is where we’ll see the biggest risk of flash flooding as that axis sets up in a northwest-to-southeast fashion. However, just to the west of the main cluster, we could see individual heavy showers and storms develop and sit over areas for a long period of time. This is why we cannot ignore the risk of flash flooding across the entire region. Highs today in the low 70’s at best.

WEATHER RADAR

Numerous showers and storms today and overnight, give way to more of a scattered variety tomorrow. Highs will remain in the 70-75º range under cloudy skies. Wednesday is the best day of the week, with sunny skies, light northerlies, and highs in the low 80’s for a comfortably warm day.

We begin to heat things up again on Thursday, with more sunshine and upper 80’s. Friday looks juicy, with highs a humid near 90 and the risk of a PM Storm.
