NYC Period of Snow Likely This Weekend
Good evening everyone. Cold air continues to pump into the region behind each fast-moving, reinforcing front. Lake effect snow squalls are also riding that train across central NY into northwest NJ, where we’ve seen some brief, heavy bursts of snow. That’ll help set us up for another cold day tomorrow, with blustery mid 30’s at best.
SATELLITE
Saturday and Sunday is where the “real” action is, when we begin to watch our next reinforcing shot of cold air. Riding along it will be a disturbance set to bring some light to moderate snows across the NYC Metro Area overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. We’ll have to wait and see how vigorous we go, but there is some upside potential here IF we see some late development as our wave of low pressure heads offshore and out to sea. For now, we’re calling for a 1-3/2-4″ type snowfall and it will stick since snow will begin late overnight as temps dip into the 20’s. Snow departs some time late morning/early afternoon on Sunday, with decreasing clouds and highs near 30….maybe.
WEATHER RADAR
Near 30 temps continue on Monday, then we slowly modify into the mid 30’s by Tuesday, then 40’s by Wednesday. This is when we begin to see some changes pattern-wise, and temps could reach the 50’s by Thursday. Mild air won’t be a constant, but we’ll be on the cool/chilly side instead of very cold.
In the long range, things look hostile towards snow in NYC after our first true taste of winter Sat/Sun. That should last about 10-15 days, then colder and more deeper-diving systems want to reload.
