Weather in 5/Joe & Joe Weather Show Latest Podcast
Good morning everyone. We have some light precipitation moving through the area causing some havoc w/ freezing rain in some of the colder spots , but we’re almost out of it and plain rain or drizzle will be here soon. We have multiple things going on, including a successful Hail-Mary forecast from weeks back with the cold air, and some plowable snow possible Friday. Come check it out below….
Expect some cloudy skies today with colder temps on the north shore of Long Island and the Bronx/northward causing the precip to be light freezing rain. Areas along the south shore of NYC and Long Island are already looking ok, and things should relax in an hour or so as temps rise above freezing in the impacted areas. Look for highs in the low to mid 40’s today and a mostly cloudy day.
We clear out tomorrow with sunshine, near 40 temps, and steady westerlies.
Clouds roll back in overnight tomorrow and we should see some light snow developing between 1 and 3am from SW to NE. That’s in response to a wave of low pressure that’ll strengthen as it hits the coast and moves to our southeast. Right now the biggest issues will be where the initial band of heavier snow sets up, and the possibility of “delayed” development. Right now, delayed development is likely, which will spare the NYC metro area of the heaviest snow amounts, but we have to keep an eye on where the original band sets up.
For the moment, this looks like a 2-4/5-8″ scenario for the NYC area, with SE New England possible seeing 6-12″ out of this. It’s a fast mover, so that’s about all it will be capable of.
We’ll keep an eye on it, and tomorrow will give us a better idea where the heavy snow will set up.
We’ve been talking for weeks now about this system actually, without knowing the exact timing (1-3 day margin of error) or what form it would come in. Our focus was the end of the first week of January for colder air to begin to make its move, and it looks like this is all coming to fruition.
Saturday is looking sunny and cold, with highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s; then we modify temporarily Sunday with some AM mix possible. That’ll be a reinforcing shot of cold air and next week looks to start out below average temp-wise.
I think overall, we’re going to see downward trend in temps, with reinforcing shots of arctic air; and an apex of frigid temps by the 3rd week of January.
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
