Weather in 5/Joe & Joe Weather Show Latest Podcast
Good morning everyone. Things are looking rather quiet in the NYC Metro Area for the next 6-10 days barring any surprises, and we’re on the path I talked about yesterday. Let’s see if we stay on that path, but first we will talk about our next small system that will not be snow-friendly for the NYC area.
We have a sunny and cold day today, with increasing clouds later at night. That’s in response to a wave of low pressure getting its act together in the southeast. Highs today will be in the near 30/low 30 realm.
That wave of low pressure will be a late developer and not anything in the strong category. However, it’ll bring a decent shot at a moderate accumulation for areas such as upper New England. Locally, if precip starts early enough, we MIGHT see a brief period of light mixed precip or light snow before near sunrise, changing over to a plain cold rain.
Confidence is low we see much mixed or frozen precip, if anything at all, and the best chance will be well north of the City. Even in those spots, a changeover to rain is likely. Best chances of see all light snow, will be around Albany on northward. Highs tomorrow will be in the near 40 range.
We clear out on Tuesday with some sunshine and milder temps. We’ll get some more melting done with mid 40’s, and that should be the theme through Thursday. Depending on the wind profile and sunshine on Thursday, near 50 temps are possible. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll still see upper 40’s for highs.
Friday we settle down a bit and drop back into he low 40’s, then sunshine and upper 40’s return for Saturday and possibly on into Sunday.
This looks to be the theme in the long range, with milder temps being knocked down by reinforcing shots of cold air that have little substance; then a return to mid to upper 40’s. To the chagrin of some and the delight of others, so far we are on the path to a successful long range forecast.
Again, this doesn’t mean the end of snow or cold, but mid to late February systems that don’t work out for snow-lovers, kicks the can further down the road towards Meteorological Spring.
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
