NYC Quiet Weather After Hurricane Ida’s Remnants Rocked Metro Area

Good morning everyone. Hopefully most of my audience escaped Ida’s remnant wrath with little to no damage, but she did a job on many parts of the Tri-State and NYC Metro Area. Flooding was widespread as a general 4-8″ of rain fell, but there were some areas which saw 9, 10, 11″ and more as convection just sat over the same spots. Tornadoes were widespread as well, with many brief F0 and F1 tornadoes in NJ, NYC, and Long Island touching down and picking up. However, the one in Mullica Hill, NJ and a few others will clock in a lot stronger once an investigation is done. To the naked eye, Mullica Hill looks like F2-F3 damage.

Here was the rainfall map that took us will about 11pm yesterday, and the rain was still falling. You can see where the heaviest rain set up, and across NJ, NYC/Long Island, and CT you can add another 1-4″ on top of those numbers from west to east.

SATELLITE

For today, we’ll have sunny skies, a stiff breeze, low humidity, and cool/comfortable conditions. Highs will be in the low to mid 70’s. We’ll repeat that tomorrow with blanket mid 70’s throughout most of the area. Overnight tonight and tomorrow, it’ll feel relatively crisp as we dip into the upper 50’s to low 60’s. Low 50’s will be common away from the City.

WEATHER RADAR

Comfortable weather continues for Saturday with mid to upper 70’s and sunshine. An approaching front on Sunday will notch up the temps slightly and increase the mix of sun and clouds, but I think we remain mostly dry. Highs in the upper 70’s to near 80.

On Labor Day, full sunshine returns and we’ll have a breezy 80 degrees.

There’s not much going on in the long range aside from some warmer temps returning. Depending on a brief ridge trying to build or not, we could see a quick return to mid to upper 80’s prior to or on Sept. 11th.
