NYC Quiet Week Begins

Good morning everyone. Our quiet week and decent snow-melt weather begins today. We do have a weak spoke of energy coming through as low pressure departs well to our north, and that may touch off a shower or snow shower; but overall we have a quiet day and a quiet week.

We start off with some clouds in the area today, and we’ll see a few breaks here and there. That small wave of energy coming around the departing low pressure in Canada will bring a shower or snow shower. The steadier precip will be to the north of the area, but its light and rather fast moving. Expect a mix of clouds and sun by mid to late afternoon. Highs today in the low to mid 40’s.

Tomorrow is precip free and we go mostly sunny for most of the day. There could be some clouds late as the cooler air begins to creep in, but overall it’s a nice day. We’ll have highs 45-50 in most of the area.

Thursday is quiet but cooler, and a breeze will give an extra chilly to the air. Look for sunshine and breezy conditions, with highs in the low to mid 40’s.

Friday looks to be the coldest day of the bunch, with more sunshine and upper 30’s.

Overall we are in a much more quiet pattern. I wouldn’t call it a zonal pattern, but it’s almost zonal. Zonal is where systems generally move west to east very quickly with the jet stream, and are rather weak. A zonal pattern also comes with no extreme temps in either direction. Nothing too mild, nothing too cold. It’s not there 100%, but the system are much weaker than what they were, and the arctic air is cut off from crossing into the region.

Saturday will be a good example of this, with some light rain possible and mid 40’s, then more 40’s behind the system on Sunday with sunshine.
