NYC Quiet Week Continues Arctic Air Pooling Up

Good morning everyone. We’re starting off cloudy and drizzly/showery this morning as expected, but sunshine is on the way. We have a continuation of our fairly quiet week, but we are watching arctic air pool up in Canada. The impact won’t be immediate, but I do feel it has to go somewhere over the course of the next 15-20 days. The question is, does it make it over the East Coast?

SATELLITE

Light showers are slowly heading out of the NYC area, and it’ll take a little time to completely exit the island. Look for rain coming to an end west to east over the next several hours, follow by sunshine and breezy conditions. We’ll have highs in the mid to maybe upper 40’s, especially in NYC proper.

It’ll be sunny and chilly tomorrow, with highs in the upper 30’s to near 40.

WEATHER RADAR

We’re back into the mid 40’s for Friday, but clouds will increase ahead of our next system. Rain will head in overnight, but shouldn’t impact the Christmas Eve commute home if you’re having dinner w/ family & friends.

We’ll have the chance of some scattered AM light showers on Saturday, then partial clearing with highs in the mid to upper 40’s.

Sunshine and a breeze return on Sunday, with more mid to upper 40’s.

In the long range, things look like they’re gearing up for a possible arctic blast some time between Jan 6th and Jan 12th. The arctic air is already pooling up, and all we need is a mechanism to bring it down. That may come in the form of an “Arctic Clipper” system, but we’ll have to investigate further to hone in on the timing or if it materializes at all. Either way, very cold air is available now even though it’s quiet and comfortable here for the moment.
