NYC Rainy Overnight Tomorrow Wintry Wednesday Possible

Good cloudy morning everyone and welcome to doom & gloom part 5. We’re beginning to experience our new pattern as the first in a series of multiple systems over the next couple of weeks, heads in tonight. We’re also watching Wednesday very closely, where an overrunning setup with relatively cold air trapped at the surface, could give us some onset snows or wintry mix.

For today, clouds will lower and thicken. Rain should move in by the evening, then get steadier overnight. We’ll have highs in the 40-45 range today.

It’ll be a nasty one tomorrow, with cold AM rain and gusty winds. We’ll have highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s, then sink back into he upper 20’s to low 30’s overnight.

WEATHER RADAR

Tuesday is the easiest of them all, with sunshine and gusty winds continuing. Highs will be low to mid 40’s. Clear skies overnight Tuesday will eventually give way to increasing clouds. Lows in the 25-30 range might set us up for some onset snows if things work out “right”.

We’ll be watching our setup very closely for Wednesday, and timing of precip will be crucial as far as if we can squeeze any snow out of this. Regardless, it’s going to be a chilly and damp day with highs in the upper 30’s to near 40. If our precip moves in fast enough, we could see a snowy start or a mix of rain, sleet, and snow. Things should turn to all cold rain by Wednesday mid to late afternoon, but we could see some wet flakes mixed in at times or a 50/50 rain & wet snow mix if that cold air is stubborn in the lower levels of the atmosphere.

Our long range continues looking colder compared to the end of December and most of this month, but that doesn’t always equate to snow and snow storms. We’ll remain very conservative with the forecast, and take each system as they come.
