NYC RAINY WEEKEND WARMUP SNOW CHANCE QUESTIONS REMAIN

Good morning everyone. The sun is finally back in the New York City area, but the wind machine keeps going for one more day. Our system for the weekend remains on schedule, but our mid-week snow chance is fading as cold high pressure might advance too far, too fast behind our weekend’s puddle-maker.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Bright sunshine rules the roost today, but stubborn low pressure continues to created enough pressure gradient to keep the wind holding on. Expect highs in the mid 40’s with north-westerlies continuing in the 15-20mph range and higher gusts. Winds finally begin to settle down tonight as will low temps. Look for low to mid 30’s in the NYC area, but we’ll be dropping into the 20’s away from the city with the help of clear skies and lighter winds.

REGIONAL RADAR

We begin to cloud up tomorrow as the day goes on, with very light winds and highs in the low 40’s. We’ll also have the slight chance of a light shower anytime in the afternoon as some weak energy passes by.

Clouds remain for Saturday and any type of broken cloud-cover will lower and thicken again. Winds will slowly swing around to the NE as our system approaches, and we could see a shower or two from mid afternoon onward; highs in the mid 40’s. The main batch of rain heads in for Saturday night, with localized flooding possible due to the ground being oversaturated.

Rain hangs on for Sunday, but we could experience some relatively warm air before things pull out. Expect clouds and rain till late morning/early afternoon and highs 55-60.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Cold air is slow to move in for Monday during the drying-out process as we could see some peaks of sun and low 50’s, but it rushes in quickly for Tuesday. This could be an issue for development of any prospective system early to mid-week.

While answering a question yesterday on Facebook, I stated to someone that I’m curious to see how much cold air is behind this departing system over the weekend; because too little cold air and we would have another rain-event. Too much cold air, and it’s possible nothing can develop at all.

As of now I’ll continue to keep an eye out for any changes, but cold/dry air seems to be moving in too deep and too quickly and could suppress any development; meaning we may not have a system all-together to debate rain or snow. It’s still early in the game and there is room for change, so stay tuned.
