Good morning everyone! We’re fine tuning the forecast and making adjustments as we watch and see what the tropics want to do. This is very important, not only for storm-watching, but to see if a little wiggle room is possible for some cooler air to sneak in if the steering currents shift slightly eastward. We’ll go over it all and see what Labor Day Weekend has in store.
For today, humidity is back with a vengeance as are very warm temps. We’ll have AM sun & clouds, then increasing clouds late. Highs in the upper 80’s will provide enough juice for some very strong to severe storms to form in eastern PA, NW NJ, and the lower Hudson Valley. Timing looks to be between 9pm and 1am west to east (NW NJ to LI), and we’ll see if some of those storms hold together. At minimum, it looks as if we’ll get some rain out of it even if the storms can’t hold onto their severe status.
Tomorrow is an improvement over today even though the temperatures are still up there. Dry westerlies and sunshine will provide us with a less humid day, no rain, and highs in the mid to upper 80’s.
We’ll continue the less humid trend with low to mid 80’s Thursday under more sunshine; then low 80’s Friday and low humidity for a perfect early September day.
We continue to watch the tropics and things are looking a little less “scary” this morning. Hopefully the trend stays and we have enough weak cold fronts moving through to keep everything well offshore. So far, we’re looking slightly warmer on Saturday with increasing humidity and highs in the mid 80’s. Sunday is looking like a hot and humid one with near 90 temps.
Labor Day is looking iffy now as we wait to see what our tropical wave does. So far, it may energize our cold front moving it, while allowing the difference air masses to be sharper. It may also slow down its ability to pass through cleanly. For the moment, we’re going to stay in the middle here and keep things conservative. Expect increasing clouds with highs in the upper 70’s to low 80, but we may have to tweak
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
