NYC Showery & Thundery Weekend Possible

Good morning everyone. Clouds have been slow to clear out as our wave of low pressure responsible for some severe weather, hangs on stubbornly out on the East End of Long Island. Eventually things will clear out, but our next wave of energy is waiting in the wings for our weekend. If you’re paying close attention, we are starting to build into a typical late-summer pattern; with more vigorous systems moving at a somewhat faster pace. We’re also seeing temperatures settle down a bit, even though there’s plenty of opportunities for some hotter days left.

For today, look for slowly decreasing clouds. It’ll take some extra time out east, but they’ll get into some PM clearing as well. Highs will be in the 75-80º range under light northeast winds.

WEATHER RADAR

After some morning sun tomorrow, we’ll see clouds increase again. Look for the chance of some scattered showers. Not everyone will get into the action, but the chance is there for some rain. Highs will be cooler-than-average, with highs in the mid to upper 70’s at best. We’ll have a better chance of showers & heavy thunderstorms overnight tomorrow into Sunday AM, then maybe an another chance with some afternoon heating. Highs will be a muggy low 80’s on Sunday. As with any of these storms throughout the past few weeks, we cannot rule out severe cells embedded within the clusters. This includes the risk of hail, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and isolated waterspouts/tornadoes.

Now for the good news – your workweek next week starts off sunny, dry, and comfortably warm. Look for sunshine both Monday and Tuesday with highs near 80.
