NYC SNOW DUSTING LONG RANGE BITTER COLD

Good morning everyone. New York City is getting its dusting/coating of snow this morning as some light snow has snuck into the area, which we talked about that possibility. Things will dry out very quickly though as high pressure wins out as expected. Meanwhile, our long range continues to look active and very cold after a dry week ahead.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Light snow ends early today, then we remain cloudy, cold, and raw as low pressure slips just to our south. A northeasterly fetch and upper 20’s to low 30’s will make it feel like low to mid 20’s throughout the day.

REGIONAL RADAR

Our week ahead is very simple. Sunny, dry, and seasonably cool/cold weather will dominate tomorrow through Thursday. Expect temps in the 35-40 range until our next system arrives.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Big questions remain for Friday and into the weekend, where our next big system will approach. It’s too early to talk about precip, but we do know that it’ll represent a big push of bitter cold air as everything departs the week of the 21st.

While bitter cold will last 3-4 days at a time, I remain confident that the way it is entering the area (via the Great Lakes), makes it hard to lock-in for weeks on end. So expect these blasts of 20’s for several days, maybe even colder, then a modification back to normal for several days, then a return back to the bitter cold.

Systems remain in this 5-7 day transit time, so we’ll be watching each one closely for timing, path, and how they coincide with cold air.
