Good morning everyone. Our spring break has ended and cooler air has sunk back down into the area. After a sunny start, the gloom moves in for a few days as several pieces of energy keep clouds and rain in the area. Once the gloom passes, seasonably cool/cold air returns, setting up the possibility of some frozen precip; but the internet is jumping way too far ahead on this one (again).
Clouds increase today and we’ll have the slight chance of some rain by late afternoon/early evening; highs in the low to mid 40’s. The real batch of steady rain moves in overnight and we should see a light soaking of 1/4 to 3/4″ of the wet stuff.
Expect tomorrow to be cloudy, drizzly, and raw, with on and off periods of light rain/mist; highs in the mid to upper 40’s. Another batch of steadier rain moves in tomorrow night, but general amounts should remain light and no flood watches are expected.
That rain should be with us until some time late Friday morning to early afternoon, then we could see a few peeks of sun as this moisture fetch finally begins to clear on out. We could see some highs in the low 50’s Friday, but it’ll be a breezy one, especially at the immediate shore.
Seasonably cold air works back in for the weekend, with a sunny and dry Saturday and Sunday, and highs in low to mid 30’s Saturday; mid to upper 30’s Sunday.
In the long range, talk is building for another all-snow event in the NYC area. Can it happen? Sure, given the perfect setup as this cold air isn’t very deep and our system paths remain hostile.
You simply cannot say for certainty that 8 days from now and 3 pieces of energy later, a wave will form south of the area to keep cold air in place, as low pressure goes west and north of us. We’ll be keeping an eye on everything, but even though models point to a promising situation, I see maybe some overrunning snow changing to rain at this point….and that’s at this point.
After we get through the next 3 days of schmutz, the landscape weather-wise could look completely different.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
