NYC SYSTEM PROCESSION CONTINUES WINTRY MIX POSSIBLE LATE WEEK

Good cold morning everyone. The coldest air of the season so far has also given us the coldest morning we’ve had since last winter/early spring. A very active pattern continues, with our next system nipping at our heels by tomorrow tonight and another one possible late week. The third time could be a charm in terms of getting enough cold air in here to see some early-season wet flakes.

EASTERN SATELLITE

In the meantime, we have another cold day today, but winds will be much calmer. We’ll have bright sunshine and highs in the low to mid 40’s. Tomorrow, we modify back into the near 50 range (upper 40’s away from the City) with increasing clouds late. Expect rain to move in between 8 and 11pm, becoming heavy at times overnight. We continue the rainy and raw conditions into Tuesday, with rain heavy at times and a stiff east wind; highs in the low 50’s.

Expect winds to be similar to our last system, but flooding could be a bigger problem because the ground is oversaturated and another 1-3″ of rain is expected.

REGIONAL RADAR

After everything departs, look for a cold Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday is shaping up to be a cold, blustery one and highs only in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. On Thursday we modify slightly, with calming winds and highs in the low to mid 40’s.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Late next week, we have our eyes on yet another system coming up from the south/southwest. This one might have enough enough cold air locked in during the onset, to give us an early taste of winter. It’s too early to make any calls yet, but if our third system is strong enough and cold high pressure is stubborn, we could see some wet snow or a wintry mix in the NYC area before turning to rain.

Also, with another reinforcing shot of cold air coming in behind that system, we could see another round of wintry precip on the back end as everything departs. For now, lets get past system #2 and see what the atmosphere looks like. I generally don’t like looking ahead of one system and at another, but it’s lining up with my notion from late September that we could get an early taste of winter here. So far we’ve already had the early frost and early cold air come to fruition.
