Weather in 5/Joe & Joe Weather Show Latest Podcast
Good morning everyone. We continue our busy forecast as heat returns today, a lesser prospect of severe weather, and an increased chance that Tropical Storm Elsa makes a very close pass to our area here in NYC. Our approaching front has slowed down a little bit, and that closes the door for some things, and opens the door for others.
Very hot weather returns today regardless of yesterday’s widespread severe storms. We’ll have humid conditions as well, with highs in the mid 90’s. Instability will increase again later this evening, but we won’t have the same level of energy or moisture to work with. Look for the chance of scattered storms this evening, and we’ll keep an eye on the radar to see what pops up and where they go. Anything that does pop up will have the potential to be severe, so watch out for localized gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail.
We’ll do it all over again tomorrow with very humid conditions and upper 80’s to near 90 temps. What should’ve been a day with widespread, on and off rain, will be re-adjusted to a partly sunny day with late afternoon/eve storms possible. That’s because our front hangs back a bit and Tropical Storm Elsa interacts less with the front due to timing and proximity.
Because of this though, it will allow Elsa to make a closer pass to the NYC area on Friday morning. As of this moment, our short range NAM has her going right over NYC, while the GFS has it nipping us and going just offshore. We’ll continue to watch this unfold, but Friday morning could be a rough one for a few hours if she goes right over us. You can expect copious rain with localized flooding, tropical storm/depression force gusts, and embedded storms if the center of Elsa transits through the area.
Your weekend is off to a good start on Saturday with sunshine and mid 80’s, then we introduce a few more clouds Sunday with mid 80’s and the slight chance of a shower.
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
