Good morning everyone. We’re watching the next phase of spring taking shape as it looks as if any surprise late-season snowstorms have about the same chance of happening as seeing an alien walking down the street holding hands with Bigfoot. We still have some chilly air left, but a milder pattern is taking shape, especially ahead of these fast-moving systems.
One of those mild days will be today, with sunshine breaking out behind the departing AM light rain. Look for highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s today, then clouds increase again ahead of the cold front. Ahead of that front, we’re expecting some very heavy showers and storms developing across the Ohio River Valley on into western/central PA and western/central New York State.
As the front sags down across our area in the NYC metro area, showers and storms will weaken somewhat, but we could still see some moderate to heavier showers mixed in; and we also can’t rule out a rumble of thunder or two. The shower and thundershower risk persists from overnight tonight onto tomorrow or a good, soaking, and much needed rain. Temps will drop through the 50’s, then 40’s as that front passes. Overnight tomorrow will be a cold one, with lows 30-35 degrees. If there is any moisture left, we could see a few departing wet flakes mixed with cold rain.
Saturday look unseasonably chilly with highs in the 40-45 range; then we rebound a bit into the near 50 range for Sunday. Breezy conditions on Saturday with stiff northwesterlies, will calm down on Sunday.
The workweek starts out with the chance of rain as a warm front and subsequent stationary front straddles the region. If the warm front can fully pass the area, plus timing of the cold front, we could see near 80 degree temps both next Thursday & Friday.
The fat lady has sung.
