Good morning everyone. We start things off fairly bright and seasonably cold this morning, then clouds begin to move in for our next system during this very active, but uneventful winter.
Expect clouds to begin creeping in as the day goes on today, with seasonably cold temps; highs in the mid to upper 30’s, maybe 40 in spots. Light snow, or snow and sleet, will begin in most areas between 8 and 11pm tonight. If it didn’t start as a mix, it will begin to mix between midnight and 3am, then go over to a plain cold rain as just enough warm air cuts into the atmosphere.
The snow map I generated yesterday remains untouched, but we’ll probably wind up on the lower end of the spectrum. It all hangs on how long that period of snow lasts before any mixing occurs. In fact, some places, especially along the immediate south shore of NYC/Long Island, may not see any accumulations. We’ll keep an eye on everything, but it is what it is. This isn’t supposed to be a major event, even for those who see all snow to our north and west.
Cold rain ends late morning/early afternoon tomorrow and it’ll remain cold and damp, highs in the mid 30’s.
Tuesday will be the nicest day of the week until Friday, with sunny skies and seasonably cold temps; highs in the mid to upper 30’s. Then, we rinse and repeat with clouds on the increase Tuesday night.
Snow or sleet and snow begin to overspread the area Wednesday morning (looks like mid-morning as of now), then we wait and see what kind of mixing occurs and how long. This system is larger than tonight’s and is more robust, so expect whatever falls to have more intensity.
I’m still holding off on talk about how long each stage lasts and what stages we’ll see, because I want to see how much warm air is involved in this, and how stubborn the cold air will be; so stay tuned.
Sun definitely returns on Friday as well as low to mid 40’s. Dry northwesterlies will help clear things out, but then winds go northeast again Saturday with the approach of yet another system.
This one will be all rain without a doubt, but timing is still in question.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
