Tropical Storm Fay Departs With More Hot Weather Entering NYC

Tropical Storm Fay Departs With More Hot Weather Entering NYC

Good morning folks. Well that was a wild ride for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon no thanks to Tropical Storm Fay. Most places saw the expected 2-4″ of rain, as well as wind gusts peaking around the 45mph mark during the strongest band that moved through. The only surprise in my book, was that last band which moved through the south shore of Brooklyn between 2:30ish and 4pm. We were easily pushing 40mph sustained for 30-45 minutes at one point.

Fay is now a memory as she pushes into New England while continuing to weaken. Behind it, hot weather moves back in and we could see a few storms in the area today.

SATELLITE

Fay’s leftover energy, combined with an approaching front, will help spark some PM thunderstorms today. Because it’s juicy, some of those storms may reach severe limits, especially in the wind category. The action will be scattered in nature, so we’ll keep an eye on the radar. Highs today in the upper 80’s to near 90.

Tomorrow is looking a touch hotter, with more sunshine, the very slight chance of a storm, and highs a humid near 90/low 90’s.

REGIONAL RADAR

Near 90 to low 90’s reign supreme all week, then we may push the low to mid 90 boundaries Thursday and Friday. Each day will come with the chance of a storm, with the best chance of action happening on Monday.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Next weekend we continue to keep an eye on a cold front which may provide a brief break from the heat. We’ll be watching closely to see if it materializes, when, and if it gets hung up along the coast for a couple of days.

As that’s happening, very hot weather continues to build in the Midwest and tries to spread east. If the front doesn’t materialize or sticks around briefly, we could see our first official heatwave of the season; or at minimum, something very close to those parameters.

Either way, we’re having one of the warmest summers we’ve had in quite some time, and it’s here to stay.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
