Good morning everyone. We’re getting that warm front out of the way quickly today here in the New York City area. This means that door of warm air I left open a crack just in case, may get blown open if we get a sunny miracle.
The main batch of rain associated with the first part of our system is already departing the area, a couple of hours earlier than expected 24-48hrs ago. I had already expected a decently mild but cloudy 65-70 day, and also left that door open a crack just in case. It looks as if we may open that door if we get some extra sunshine in the area.
Locally, our marine layer, fog, and southerly wind could deny several locales a piece of the action, but we shall see. We will play conservative with the forecast and give you two scenarios. If clouds and fog are stubborn, look for 65-70 degree temps and humid in most spots, cooler at the immediate shore. If the sun breaks out, we go a humid 75-80, especially in interior/northern parts of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx, Nassau, and New Jersey. (cooler at the shore and areas packed in fog/clouds)
This has the potential to be a warm one today, but we play it cool and not get excited yet. We also can’t forget that we have the potential to be warm because we’re in the warm sector of a system, so we can introduce a shower or storm at any point today too.
Because today has the potential to be a warm one and precipitation moves out faster, tomorrow could be a little cooler and messy. After a mild night tonight, the cold front drapes down and we introduce a maritime flow tomorrow. This will hold things in the 50’s with cloudy skies. We could also see some afternoon showers as all of the energy finally starts to slide away.
Wednesday and Thursday continue to look nice, but on the seasonably cool side; with sunny skies and mid 50’s in most spots. Another system heads in on Friday for some more showers, and we’ll see if we can get that thing out of here to salvage the entire weekend.
Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
