BRIEF NYC COOLOFF SPRINGLIKE THURSDAY
BRIEF NYC COOLOFF SPRINGLIKE THURSDAY
BRIEF NYC COOLOFF SPRINGLIKE THURSDAY – Good morning everyone and welcome to March...I mean February. This week we’ll pretty much have all of the seasons aside from deep winter and dog days of Summer. Cooler air has moved back in today, with a northerly breeze, sunny skies, and highs in the low to mid 50’s. Overnight, temps will drop into the low 30’s as even colder air moves in for tomorrow. It will be seasonably cold tomorrow as a weak warm front begins to approach the area and clouds increase late in the day, highs in the low to mid 40’s. Overnight tomorrow, that front will pass to our north, bringing a slight chance of showers in the area.
Things will begin to clear out on Wednesday and mild air will start to move back in. Depending on how much sunshine we get, we could see highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s, maybe even mid 60’s in notoriously warmer parts of the NYC area.
BRIEF NYC COOLOFF SPRINGLIKE THURSDAY
On Thursday, high pressure will move off of the coast and pump some very unseasonably warm air into the NYC area with the help of west/southwesterly winds. As long as we get more sun than clouds, we will easily see temps 70-75 in many areas, although slightly cooler at the coast. The record high of 70 degrees set in 1985 at Central Park, may fall.
Last week, I spoke about how this warm weather, to cool weather, to warm weather is courtesy of a stretched out system in the mid west that would break apart and send several waves of energy towards our area. The first one will be the one giving us the chance of rain Tuesday night, then back to warm. The next one will be on Friday, giving us cloudy and cooler weather as it approaches, highs in the mid to upper 50’s. The chance of rain will increase Friday night and into Saturday, where there may be a period of steady rain, but it looks as if the heaviest precip will be to the north of us and into New England. Highs Saturday will be in the mid to upper 50’s, then mid 40’s Sunday as things begin to clear out and cooler weather heads in again.
Looking ahead, this process looks to repeat itself several times into the first week of March, with periods of seasonably cold air, and back to back days of unseasonably warmer air related to approaching systems. We are looking at a very active period ahead as these systems slamming the west coast, eventually head our way.
