UPDATE: NICOLE A CAT. 3, BERMUDA LANDFALL LIKELY
Update: Hurricane Nicole is now a category 3 storm. Bermuda is bracing for a landfall, something that has happened only 12 times in recorded history.
Bands of heavy rain have already begun to move across Bermuda, and winds are starting to pick up. Sustained winds of 45 mph and gusts over 60 mph have already been reported. The current maximum sustained winds around the center of circulation are 125 mph, with gusts up to 160. Winds at the time of landfall are likely to be well over 100 mph. In addition to very high winds and torrential rain, Bermuda could see a storm surge of 6-8 feet.
The storm has made a wobble to the right, and while this slight shift to the east could spare the island the strongest winds, it will otherwise do little to diminish the effects on Bermuda.
