NYC Christmas Eve Lightning Possible
Good morning everyone. The “nicest” day of the week is upon us, and it’ll be a quiet and seasonable one before things get squirrelly tomorrow. One thing I’ve noticed on social media, is this talk of a “flash freeze” for Christmas Day. While it will be much colder, the cold air isn’t moving fast enough behind the rain to make this happen.
SATELLITE
We’ll have sunny skies today, quiet conditions, lighter winds, and highs in the low to mid 40’s today.
Clouds will begin to increase overnight and into tomorrow morning, plus the wind will pick up. Scattered rain showers are possible anytime after 12-2pm tomorrow, but the bulk of the rain won’t move through until the overnight hours. A strong band of heavy rain and wind will push through the area between 10pm and 3am, and that’s where the strongest winds will be felt. Aside from a few rumbles of thunder, winds along the coast may gust up to 50mph or so. Highs tomorrow continue to look like they’ll be in the 55-60 range.
We’ll begin clearing out slowly on Christmas Day Friday, and no flash freeze is expected. Temps will fall into the 30’s by sunset, and there may be some icy patches in spots overnight where there are puddles left. However, we’ll have some drying time all day long before the freezing temps arrive, so you won’t see this mass “flash freeze” that everyone is talking about.
Your weekend remains looking quiet and cold, with sunny skies both days. We’ll have upper 20’s to low 30’s as highs on Saturday, then upper 30’s on Sunday ahead of weak system coming through Monday/Tuesday.
