NYC Coastal Storm Potential Looms

Good morning everyone. We have a showery and cooler day today as a stationary front drapes itself across the region. This will play out with cooler-than-average temps, clouds, and on & off showers throughout the week. We’ll also have to watch closely as moisture hung up offshore, could develop into a coastal system. High pressure building over the Great Lakes and east of Nova Scotia, could form a block, forcing low pressure back towards the coast. It’s an odd setup and scenario, but not completely out of the realm of reality.

For today, look for clouds and on and off showers. We’ll be on the wrong side of the boundary today, with highs in the mid to upper 60’s at best. Overnight, another waves of showers and rumbles will move through.

WEATHER RADAR

Clouds stick around tomorrow, but the chance of showers will fade out temporarily. We’ll have steady NE winds, with highs in the mid to upper 60’s again. Look for a new chance of showers Tuesday, with highs in the mid 60’s at best. Mid 60’s remain on Wednesday with clouds sticking around.

Thursday and Friday, we’ll see a new chance of showers with the possibility of in creasing winds. If low pressure forms offshore, regardless of whether it gets pushed back into the coast or not, tight pressure gradients could give us wind gusts in the 35-50mph range. This will also lead to coastal flooding and large surf.

Stay tuned and we will keep an eye on it all.
