NYC COLD BLAST BRINGS FLURRY CHANCE

NYC COLD BLAST BRINGS FLURRY CHANCE

Good morning folks. Wind-driven cold air is working its way into the New York City area as we speak, setting us up for a brutal cold Thanksgiving Day. Along with that reinforcing shot, it could touch of a few scattered flurries in the process. Meanwhile, the weekend is looking 1/2 wet, but much more tame.

Clear skies and WSW winds will be what’s on the menu this morning, but wind direction won’t warm things up this time around. That’s because we’ve already had a reinforcing shot of cold air and our wind direction is ahead of a secondary, even colder shot. Ahead or just behind this blast, we could also see some scattered flurries/snow showers make it from upstate NY/NJ late afternoon/eve, but not everyone will see the “action”. Expect highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s and breezy with gusts to near 30; especially when that leading edge gets close.

My sunny, breezy, and below normal Hail-Mary forecast for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago was 90% dead on, but I couldn’t predict the near-record cold we’re going to experience tomorrow. As stated yesterday, we’ll be flirting with the all-time coldest Thanksgiving on record. If we don’t make it, we’ll be at minimum in the top 3 coldest of all time for the area. Look for highs in the mid to upper 20’s and breezy, with gusts to near 30 again.

For those going to the parade, dress as if you’re going to watch the ball drop at Times Square during New Years Eve; that’s the best way to describe the cold and wind and how to prepare. Winds won’t be an issue as far as cancelling the famous balloons, but they may have to lower them to keep things safe.

Friday will be another cold one, but at least we’ll climb out of the 20’s. Expect sunny and dry conditions again, much lighter winds, and highs a “spring-like” low to mid 30’s.

Rain continues to look like a good bet for Saturday afternoon as we modify well into the upper 40’s to near 50; but it looks as if we clear things out faster with no rain expected on Sunday. We’re actually looking pretty good for the 2nd part of the weekend, with partial clearing and highs in the low to mid 50’s; so get out those short sleeves and suntan lotion.
