NYC Cool Air Heads in Tomorrow
11/11/24 10:27am EST
Good morning everyone. Behind our departing system that brought some much-needed rain to the Northeast, cooler air is beginning to make its move. Look for clouds to eventually break up as today wears on, and some sunshine will begin to creep in. 60’s today will drop into the 50’s by tomorrow, then we struggle to get to 50 on Wednesday; with some places hanging out in the 40’s.
Our feature story today will be a new powerful storm system that is setting itself up to emerge from the Rockies this weekend and into early next week. This will be the result of our 2 branches of the jet stream merging, then sending a powerful low pressure system from the Southwest into the Great Lakes region.
Heavy snows in the Pacific Northwest and mountainous areas of the Southwest, will translate into heavy snows for eastern Colorado and western Nebraska. Ahead of it, we will be watching closely for the risk of widespread severe weather. This will be very similar to a spring-time storm, but in reverse as we are on a downward trend temp-wise as opposed to upward in the spring.
The window for heavy snows look to be some time between Sunday and next Tuesday from southwest to Northeast. Our severe thunderstorm risk, with large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the chance of some tornadoes, looks to be between Monday and Tuesday. Areas of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and eastern Nebraska need to be on the lookout.
Behind our system, some areas that experience severe thunderstorms, could see some snow as a departing shot. The best to chance to see this changeover will be across parts of Kansas, eastern Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
