NYC Flood Watches High Wind Advisories Continue

Good morning everyone. Our powerful system is slowly trudging in this direction, with moisture streaming up from the Southeast along a powerful front that stretches form Canada to Mexico. Flood watches, High Wind Advisories, and High Wind Warnings continue to light up the map as we are expecting a fairly big weather event for the Northeast and New England.

Aside from the flooding potential and wind, we are also expecting a parting shot of winter weather, especially for interior parts of the Northeast and New England. Look for heavy rain changing to snow, and in some cases, heavy snow; specifically for higher elevations of the Catskills and the Adirondacks. In other areas such as Northeast Pennsylvania and Northwest New Jersey, a brief shot of snow could whiten the ground tomorrow AM.

As for us, we will be watching that cold air closely and the rain snow line. Do not be surprised if we see a parting brief period of mixed precip or some wet snow flakes before things come to an end.

For today, look for on and off rain with a few rumbles of thunder possible. Highs will be a mild near 60 degrees and it’ll become blustery. Overnight, expect rain, heavy at times, with winds gusting to near 40 mph in spots. As you go east, those winds could gust 50-60mph, especially out on the Forks of Long Island.

Temperatures drop into the near 40 range as that colder air filters in, and we will watch the radar closely to see if NYC gets a few flakes at the end. Again, the best chance to see a period of snow will be interior parts of the Northeast away from the coast, but if things get dynamic enough, we could get a little winter taste at the end of this.

Any rain or mixed precip comes to an end tomorrow morning, and highs in the mid to upper 40’s will happen early; then we will drop again. It’ll be a chilly one overnight in the low 30’s. For those areas that experience flooding or ponding of water, we could see some icy patches, so be careful Tuesday AM.

WEATHER RADAR

Expect sunny and chilly conditions Tuesday with highs near 40. Sunshine continues Wednesday with low to mid 40’s, then we drop again to near 40 Thursday. Temps modify a bit Friday into the near-average range, then next weekend looks average but damp as an east wind builds.

We continue to watch next weekend and the long range wants to kick the can down the road a bit for our next potential big system. As of now, it looks as if a Nor’Easter-type storm will try and get going, but it’s too early to tell what we have on our hands yet. What we do know is that the weekend looks like it’ll be spared, but next Monday might not be so great either way.
