Gusty scattered showers and storms are expected to develop over parts off Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island over the next 12-36 hours. We could also see some tidal departures with higher than average tides, but coastal flooding should be kept to a minimum. The New York City area and Long Island also get into the action a bit, as a sunny and hot forecast has been replaced with extra clouds, a few scattered gusty showers, and temps held down by ESE winds.
Another feature we are watching is the risk for widespread severe weather in parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Missouri later this afternoon through the early morning hours north to south. Energy coming out of North Dakota will help spark off a pretty formidable multi-directional line in Minnesota, while scattered clusters form over parts of South Dakota.
That energy will sink south into Iowa, then eventually Missouri, and will be capable of very large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, torential rain, and we cannot rule out the risk for a few tornadoes.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
Look for sunny skies today, then increasing clouds late. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80’s, with increasing humidity as easterly winds add some moisture.
We’ll have sun and clouds tomorrow, with the chance of a few scattered gusty showers. Winds will be fairly light when there is no shower activity. Highs in the mid 80’s.
