NYC HOT HEAT TODAY WET RAIN FRIDAY
NYC HOT HEAT TODAY WET RAIN FRIDAY
NYC HOT HEAT TODAY WET RAIN FRIDAY – Good hot morning everyone! A little humor in the title today as we have a hot and humid day ahead. We find ourselves on the south side of a stationary front draped around Lake Ontario across southern New England as a wave rides along it. This keeps us in the soupy air for one more day and highs should be 90-95 with heat indexes 95-100 in many areas. Even at the immediate shore, there is no reprieve from this hot weather as winds are light and the sea breeze is almost non-existent.
The wave riding along this front will be problematic later this afternoon/evening, putting enough rotation in the atmosphere for a decent shot at some severe storms. The biggest threat with these storms will be damaging winds, torrential rain, and frequent lightning. It’s not being discussed on any major site, but I also wouldn’t rule out the chance of an isolated tornado, especially just south of the core of energy as it runs across this hot humid airmass. Also, with the sea breeze influence fairly low, storms should survive at a minimum strong category all the way to the shore.
Tomorrow, that front sinks to our south before passing again as a faster moving warm front/cold front combination. This will keep widespread, periods of rain and embedded thunderstorms all day Friday and into Friday night. Flooding in poor drainage areas will be possible and we could also see one more round of severe weather later tomorrow eve as the cold front swings by. Being on the cool side of this system tomorrow, we’ll have east winds, cloudy skies in between these period of rain/storms, and highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Total rainfall tomorrow will be 1-2″ with locally higher amounts where heavier thundershowers set up.
Lagging moisture will be slow to clear out on Saturday, but once it does and low clouds exit, we should have a partly sunny day with highs in the mid 80’s. Sunday may pan out to be a little warmer than expected, especially if the winds remain light and out of the NW. This will allow air to sink and heat up rapidly, giving us the potential for temps in the mid to upper 80’s. As of now, normal temps return for Monday and Tuesday, but on Wednesday the heat and humidity fight back hard with temps possibly near 90 again.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the radar today and alert on Facebook’s Angry Ben’s Angry Weather if any severe weather starts to pop up.
NYC HOT HEAT TODAY WET RAIN FRIDAY – Waves of energy ride along a stationary front draped along the upper Northeast, bringing with it heavy rain and the prospect of severe weather.
Things are already getting busy as heavy rain and storms light up the radar in eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. We’ll keep an eye on this as it marches east and into our area by late afternoon/early eve.
