NYC Long Range Outlook
Good evening everyone. For this evening’s forecast, we’ll take a look at the long range outlook regarding what some of the models are doing and what it means. First, we’ll cover the next few days ahead on into the weekend.
SATELLITE
Popcorn showers upstate are starting to die out as the sun begins to set. This trend will continue and we are looking at a dry and comfortably warm Wednesday. Look for full sunshine and highs 80-85. A new front begins to approach from the west on Thursday. Expect increasing clouds and the slight chance of some late afternoon showers and storms. The best chance will be overnight into early Friday. Highs Thursday a soupy low to mid 80’s. Another spoke of energy will row through on Friday, giving us another chance of showers & storms. Highs a humid low to mid 80’s again. Any of these storms may contain hail, torrential rain, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and the risk of an isolated tornado.
WEATHER RADAR
Your weekend is on the peaceful side, with decreasing clouds on Saturday and highs in the low 80’s. Look for more low 80’s on Sunday with comfortably warm conditions.
As we look ahead, the models are starting to show some signs of late summer/early fall. While we don’t rely on models that far ahead for precise forecasts, you can definitely decipher trends down the road. Faster moving systems, which is already beginning to happen; deeper-diving cold fronts, and the models starting to depict snow up in western Canada, are all healthy trends regarding some refreshing air and lower humidity to come. While this is all good news, we are in no way done with the warmth soon or individual hot days. However, I see typical and average timing in terms of our pattern changes during the month of September. This means over the next several weeks, we could see our first big cold front move through; providing a much-needed break. That may also come with the risk of severe weather as September is notorious in the NYC area for some big stuff.
