NYC Long Range Shows Possible Active Pattern
11/09/24 12:37pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. Much cooler air has infiltrated the Northeast, with freeze warnings posted overnight for parts of Long Island and Connecticut. Highs in the mid 50’s today will drop down into the near-freezeing/below freezing realm, prompting those warnings by the National Weather Service. Aside from that, we have some rain on the way for tomorrow night, which will help lessen the fire risk.
Our big story remains the heavy showers and thunderstorms down into the Gulf States, Mississippi Valley, and eventually into the Ohio River Valley. A long line of heavy showers and thunderstorms is slowly marching to the east/northeast across parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Look for that line to get into the Indiana and Ohio area later today and tonight.
While we don’t have widespread severe weather to report, we could see some isolated instances of stronger storms. As the afternoon heating takes hold and storms bump into areas that saw sunshine for part of the day, we could see some locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, small hail, and torrential rain.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for a sunny and seasonably cool today today, with highs in the low to mid 50’s. Overnight tonight will be a chilly one, with freeze warnings posted for Suffolk County on Long Island. Clouds increase tomorrow with the chance of some rain later in the evening and overnight hours. Highs tomorrow near 60.
WEATHER RADAR
Monday looks to be on the milder side, with sun and clouds and the chance of a shower or two; highs 65-70. Sunshine returns on Tuesday and we creep back into the near 60 realm. By Wednesday, we are back in the mid 50’s.
Looking into the long range, we have a few more opportunities for rain over the next couple of weeks. It looks as if a more active pattern is starting to take hold, which will slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) lessen the drought conditions. We also see the chance of a fairly sizable cool to cold blast sweeping though some time during your holiday weekend in a couple of weeks.
