NYC LONG RANGE SYSTEM NUMBER TWO DISCUSSED
NYC LONG RANGE SYSTEM NUMBER TWO DISCUSSED
NYC LONG RANGE SYSTEM NUMBER TWO DISCUSSED – Good morning everyone. It’s good to be back typing my own forecasts and I’m fairly satisfied with yesterdays forecast. We had a few surprises on the low end of the spectrum (Suffolk County) and the high end of the spectrum (NW New Jersey and PA), but sandwiched in the middle, was a large swath that fell into the forecast presented.
The sun is out and snow is melting slowly in most areas; we’ll have a brisk west wind and highs near 40. Sun will be with us tomorrow, then clouds slowly increase as the day wears on with the approach of another system; high again near 40. Overnight tomorrow, low pressure will go to our north, putting us in the “warm” sector of this system. The warm air will be aloft, and we’ll have a cold rain with lows in the mid to upper 30’s. Rain might stick around for a bit on Tuesday, then we’ll have partial clearing and low to mid 40’s.
After this system passes, unseasonably cold air rushes in quickly. With lows in the low 20’s Tuesday night, any moisture left on the roads could freeze, causing issues with black ice for the commute early Wednesday morning. For Wednesday and Thursday, we might not even break 30 as highs. Expect highs near 30 in the NYC area, and mid to upper 20’s elsewhere. Temps will drop into the teens at night, then slowly modify Thursday night with clouds associated with a weak system keeping the temps from dropping fast. We could have some scattered light now or flurries Thursday night and Friday morning, but it won’t amount to anything as of this moment.
In the long range, shots of reinforcing cold air continue and the system parade as well. However, system path is suspect, and right now not conducive for any big snows in the foreseeable future. I continue to see a possible “relaxing” of this arctic push towards the end of the month, but it’s all speculation at this point. Stay tuned and we will watch for any changes.
