NYC Milder Weekend With Some Rain

01/14/25 11:17am EST

Good morning everyone. We have a quiet, windy, and cold week unfolding in much of the Northeast; with Lake Effect snows still impacting eastern lake shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The Lake Effect snow machine remains the focus of our forecast as moderate to heavy snows continue going over the same areas, putting down large accumulation totals. For this reason, the National Weather Service continues their Lake Effect Snow Warnings through overnight tomorrow into early Thursday morning along those eastern shores. That coincides with a wind shift that’ll essentially shut off the moisture feed and stop the snow. All in all, we expect another 8-12″ of snow, plus gusty winds across areas such as Dunkirk and Pulaski, NY through tonight; then more tomorrow into the overnight hours.

For other areas of the Northeast, we have 20’s and 30’s dominating the region with blustery conditions. Milder air will be on the move as our next storm system rides up to our west, putting us in the “warm” quadrant of that system. 30 degree temps will rise into the low 40’s for Friday, then mid 40’s possible along the coast with some rain this weekend.

We also continue to watch the prospect of some snow or mix possible to start the workweek next week alone the Northeast coast, with some snow possible inland. This is due to that system passing on by this weekend, colder air filtering in, and a possible wave of low pressure riding up the coast. As of now we do not see an overtly powerful system, but we could get some light to moderate accumulations out of this if it comes to fruition.
