Weather in 5/Joe & Joe Weather Show Latest Podcast
Good morning everyone. We have another mild day today, which was the 2nd chance for near 70 temps in 2 weeks which was discussed several weeks ago. That forecast came to fruition, now we shift our eyes to some chillier air moving in and a “confusing” week next week as Thanksgiving Weekend nears.
Today is an easy one, with sunshine, light SW winds, and highs in the 65-70 range. Best chance to see 70 will be just west of NYC, downtown Brooklyn, and central/northern spots of the boroughs and Nassau/Suffolk.
Clouds increase later on, and we’ll have the chance of some rain overnight. The first push with be a very narrow band of brief, moderate rain. That narrow band may represent a gust front, capable of bringing us some strong, straight-line winds, before disappearing and a more organized batch of rain moves in.
For the layperson, think of a thunderstorm without the thunderstorm, when you get that initial strong push of wind as the shelf cloud passes by.
Tomorrow we go chilly and breezy, with useless sunshine, highs in the mid to upper 40’s, and stiff NW winds 10-20mph. Winds will relax on Saturday, but we still don’t get out of the 40’s.
We’ll modify on Sunday, but that’s ahead of our next system. Expect increasing clouds and mid 50’s. Rain will head in overnight Sunday into Monday, then temps drop from the 50’s to the 40’s again.
Monday’s cold front will be the first ingredient as to what’s to come for the rest of the week. The question is, what’s to come? I don’t particularly like the way the models are depicting Tuesday, onward, so I’m going to hold off in terms of pinning down precip types, intensity, and timing.
What I can tell you is this – the same features continue to pop up and have been for the past week, which means in my mind that something is brewing or several things are brewing. Do we get 1 intense system? Or is it a piece-meal, 5 day parade of clouds and on & off precip…..
Time will tell and I think we’ll get a better picture on Monday with the passage of our 2nd cold front in 4 day’s time.
Please note that with regards to any severe weather, tropical storms, or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
