NYC Northeast Light Winter Appetizer Cooking
Good afternoon everyone. While everyone is focused on hypotheticals and wonky models, we bring reality back into focus and shine a light on some light wintry weather coming to the Northeast; plus some much more seasonable type conditions as opposed to some semi-mild days like we’ve had int he last few weeks.
SATELLITE
Sunshine graces us for the rest of the day today and tomorrow. We’ve reached our peak of low to mid 40’s, and we’ll cool off into strictly the low 40’s tomorrow as low pressure well offshore gets pushed south, helping to filter in slightly colder air.
This will help set us up for Sunday as colder air locks into the Northeast as an area of energy emerges from the Great Lakes. This will help touch off some light snow for interior parts, while a cold light rain pays a visit for NYC & Long Island. Low pressure will try and form, enhancing some of the precip, but it’ll happen too late and move too fast to make much of a difference. However, areas N&W of NYC, especially higher elevations of the Poconos of NEPA, NY, and extreme NW NJ, could see a 2-4/3-6″ type snowfall. Otherwise, a general 1-3/2-4″ type snowfall will visit the rest of the interior. Highs will be in the low 40’s Sunday for the NYC Metro Area.
As for NYC & Long Island, we could see a departing shot of some wet flakes mixed in come very early Monday morning, or we could see a very brief changeover before coming to an end. Either way, the ground will be wet and temps will be above freezing, so little to no accumulation is expected. As Joe Cioffi says, “a cheap thrill” is possible for those who like to watch the first flakes of the season. Best chance to see these flakes (if they happen) will be the Bronx and north shore of Long Island. Sunshine returns on Monday, with highs again in the low 40’s.
WEATHER RADAR
We remain sunny on Tuesday, but low 40’s remain locked in tight. We could see a slight chance of rain and or a light mix Wednesday if another north-to-south-moving low pressure brushes us from the Maritime, but so far this scenario is looking very light or nothing at all.
I continue to look at a few ingredients to see if the Northeast wants to Nor’Easter, but we aren’t there yet. Regardless of what happens though, we are entering a decidedly colder pattern, and we should be experiencing the coldest air of the season coming up near or at Christmas and Hanukkah.
Stay tuned as we watch it all and see if our colder pattern can generate something more significant in terms of precip
