NYC Perfect Week of September Weather Ahead
08/31/24 8:50am ET
Good morning everyone. The Northeast is socked in by clouds as that long-ranging cold front from Canada to Texas, slowly drags its way to the Eastern Seaboard. We’ll be watching for scattered storms in interior sections of the Northeast today, plus parts of the Ohio Valley, but we turn our eyes elsewhere to see the full impact of this cold front. Regardless, the Northeast is in for a beautiful workweek once this front passes by, with widespread 70 degree temps, cool nights, and low humidity.
The “elsewhere” would be along the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi; plus interior sections of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. For the Gulf Coast, heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to inundate areas such as New Orleans, Lake Charles, and the Texas barrier islands just on the other side of the Louisiana border.
Unfortunately because of its slow movement, there is a slight chance we could see this tropical moisture go beyond and organize into a tropical depression. It’s all semantics though at this point, because we’re already seeing isolated severe weather, torrential rain, flooding, gusty winds, and some waterspouts.
For the Southeast in the areas mentioned, we could see some isolated strong to severe storms today in northern Georgia, upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina, and areas of Virginia. The biggest risk though is tomorrow afternoon as that cold front nears. We’ll be looking for a loosely organized line stretching from Virginia down into Georgia. At this point, damaging winds and large hail are the primary risk, but we could also see a few tornadoes out of this.
Stay tuned for the latest, and here is your local NYC Metro Forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for mostly cloudy skies today with highs in the 75-80 range. It’ll be a humid one, but I think any rain holds off till tonight or tomorrow. Expect more clouds tomorrow, with upper 70’s to low 80’s and very humid conditions. We’ll have a decent chance of scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms, and some may reach severe limits.
WEATHER RADAR
Monday and Tuesday are twin perfect days, with sunshine, low humidity, and highs in the mid to upper 70’s.
We warm up a little bit on Wednesday, but we remain sunny throughout the rest of the week. Look for near 80 temps Wednesday through Friday for a perfect start to September.
