NYC Quiet Period Continues Before Possible Cold Blast

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday! We have a cold and breezy one today as low pressure scoots off the coast way to our south, then we modify a few degrees during the workweek. There’s nothing much going on at all, and that’ll continue until some arctic air tries to breach the area.

We’ll have plenty of sunshine this morning, and then some clouds may creep in as the day goes on. It’ll be breezy with highs in the mid to upper 30’s.

Full sunshine returns tomorrow and we modify the temps a bit. Expect highs near 40 tomorrow, with upper 30’s away from the City.

We’re quiet all week next week, and the EURO model is wrong (again)  in terms of seeing low pressure getting close enough to bring us measurable snow. We knew this, which is why we never mentioned it for the past several days. The EURO overall has become a very unreliable source, particularly during the winter & coastal systems.

Expect sunshine throughout the either week next week, with temps ranging 40-45 during this stretch.

Next weekend things become a little more questionable in terms of very cold air making its way in. We’re not expecting anything big in terms of storms, but a frontal system will pass by some time next weekend. Will it be enough to bring the cold air down into the Northeast? I’m thinking most likely no. However, it will get us out of the 40’s and into the 30’s briefly.

What I’m watching is a reinforcing/possibly stronger cold front after next weekend. Prior to the passing of this system, we could see 1 mild day, but then it looks as if things turn very cold. One of the issues I’m seeing though with this possible arctic blast, is that it’s very shallow in terms of how far south it goes.

Typically, when you see frigid air slide across the northern Plains and into the Northeast instead of diving deep into the lower Midwest, it simply doesn’t last long. It could be one of those things where we see 2-4 very cold days before things moderate.

Stay tuned.
