NYC Real October Weather Likely Next Week

10/09/24 10:08am ET

Good morning everyone. The Northeast continues to enjoy some very quiet weather amongst the chaos in the Southeast. Sunshine is in control with dry conditions until a reinforcing shot of cool air brings the chance of some clouds and showers tomorrow morning. We’ll briefly drop into the upper 50’s and 60’s, then milder air returns for Friday and Saturday.

We also have some colder conditions to talk about and subsequent frost across the northern tier. In the higher elevation valleys of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, we could see some heavy frost overnight as temps dip to near or just below freezing. There’s also the chance for some more frost across parts of Wisconsin and maybe the U.P. of Michigan for a repeat of last night. From the Upper Plains into the Northeast, this is just a preview, as we could see very cool temps with crisp overnights starting next Monday.

Our focus remains on the severe weather prospects across parts of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. We still have a long way to go on this, and we’re already seeing a new batch of heavy showers and thunderstorms across parts of Florida. We’ll watch that action become more widespread and intense again today, with locally strong winds, frequent lightning, hail, torrential rain, and the risk of some waterspouts.

As the core of our system makes landfall late tomorrow night/early Thursday morning, we cannot forgot about the more rounds of severe weather possible. The severe weather aspect of this storm is just as important as the coastal impacts, and widespread brief tornadoes could cause heavy, localized damage across parts of Florida that are away from the main action.

We will also see heavy showers and thunderstorms spread across parts of the Georgia & South Carolina coast later tomorrow and Thursday. Here too, look for locally strong winds and torrential rain.

Look for sunshine today, then increasing clouds late and highs in the near 70 range. We’ll have the slight chance of showers overnight tonight into tomorrow morning, then we’ll have some late clearing. Highs tomorrow in the mid to upper 60’s.

WEATHER RADAR

We dip into the low 60’s not Thursday for a brief showing of even cooler air, but then we rebound to near 70 on Friday. Saturday is the best day of the bunch, with full sunshine and mid to upper 70’s possible. Cooler air is on the move for Sunday, and this could wind up being the coolest air of the season so far. Look for clouds and 60’s on Sunday.

To start your workweek next week, we may struggle to reach 60 on Monday and Tuesday, with breezy conditions and a mix of sun & clouds for a very October-like feel.
