NYC RECORD HIGHS POSSIBLE TODAY AFTER FOGGY START

NYC RECORD HIGHS POSSIBLE TODAY AFTER FOGGY START – Good morning everyone. The day I have been talking about for weeks has arrived. The south has warmed up nicely, a stretched out front hangs out to our west, and a Bermuda-like high is finally able to pump up some of that spring air our way.

It’ll be short-lived and not everyone will see it due to our notorious marine-layer courtesy of a very cold ocean nearby, but look for near-record or record highs for parts of the NYC area. Fog and low clouds will hang around for much of the morning, especially at the immediate shore. Then, the sun will peek through and we should reach the upper 60’s to low 70’s with a gusty southwest breeze.

If the sun comes out earlier, we could tack on a few more degrees, but for the immediate shore, we’re looking at upper 50’s to low 60’s as highs. High temperature for Central Park was 68 set back in 1930, so I think at minimum we tie it. If the sun cooperates and the southwest breeze doesn’t go slightly more southerly, we go for the record.

Rain and much cooler weather head back in tomorrow after a spring-like day today. Expect temps to drop through the 40’s and we’re back into the 30’s by tomorrow night. Friday will be seasonably cool with highs in the low to mid 40’s. Rain will be in and out of the picture this weekend as our pattern has ground to a halt with slow moving systems; highs in the low to mid 50’s.

The long range continues to lack any major cold air, or even warm air like today. So far we seem to transit rapidly between seasonably cool air and days slightly above normal. Vigorous system possibilities remain throughout, but it looks like the Rockies and Midwest are starting up their typical late-winter snow machine, which usually equates to a rainy time on the East Coast.
